Lorcan Hartigan

Partner, audits and appeals

Lorcan answers questions the IRS asks about a return and takes the disagreements further, when they can't be settled by mail.

Lorcan spends most of his week with people who have a letter and a shoebox, and the work is the same each time: find out what the agency actually wants, and answer only that.

When an audit result looks wrong, he prepares the appeal and explains the odds in plain terms before it is filed.

How Lorcan runs an audit file

He writes the reply before he sends anything, then reads it back as if he were the examiner. If a page invites a question he can't answer, it comes out or the answer goes in.

He tells clients early what the likely outcomes are, including the ones they would rather not hear, so the decision to appeal is theirs and an informed one.
